Facebook

Facebook is the most popular social network in the world with 2.74 billion active users as of February 2021. There is no sign of a decrease in the rate of growth which is why I have chosen it as one of the platforms to promote my blog.

Facebook’s demographic is very diverse. This allows my page to reach people outside of my target audience to increase engagement. Facebook includes a ‘share’ feature which enables anyone to share my blog posts on their timeline for everyone on their friends list to see. This increases my page’s exposure potentially drawing more traffic to my website.

Twitter

Twitter is a popular social media platform based on microblogging which is frequent, short posts. Microblogging is effective as people active on social media are much more likely to interact with a post if the information is easy to digest.

A useful feature on twitter is retweeting. This allows users to share a post onto their page for their followers to see. If your post is retweeted it can reach a large audience in a short space of time.

Instagram

Instagram is a popular social media platform which focuses on image posts. A large percentage of their active users are younger people. My blog posts are aimed at beginners and younger people are more likely to fit into this category.

An important feature on Instagram for audience engagement is hashtags. The inclusion of hashtags in your posts allows you to reach specific target audiences.

How I used each social media platform to promote my blogs

Profile picture and cover photo

I created a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram page to begin promoting my blog. For the profile picture on each page I chose an image of myself holding a camera. This fits with the videography theme. Facebook and Twitter have the option of adding a cover image. The image I used is the logo from my website. This has an instant visual impact on the viewer as the first thing they see is the brand. I used the same profile picture and cover photo for each site for consistent branding. This makes me recognisable to my audience on multiple social media platforms.

Bio

I included a bio for all three pages, so people know a bit about me and what I do. My website link was included for easy access to my blog.

Posts

I created 5 posts for each social media platform, promoting each blog. Each post’s layout is similar to create a consistent, organised appearance. I use intriguing language such as a rhetorical question to interest the viewer. Facebook and twitter automatically displayed my blog links as a visual, using images from my posts. The image tells a story, grabbing the viewer’s attention.

Instagram

Posting on Instagram requires you to upload an image which can be accompanied by a caption. I created a caption for each post, using language similar to the posts on Facebook and Twitter. A link to each blog post was also provided in the caption. I used multiple hashtags for each post such as ‘#blogger’ and ‘#videography.’ This feature allows me to reach my specific target audience. Anyone that searches these hashtags will be able to view my posts.
